mattresses. Listed below is also a price comparison of Tempur-Pedic
® mattress prices compared to Selectabed® memory foam beds-mattresses prices.
*Tempur-Pedic ® Vs our
Selectabed®
memory foam
mattresses
It's important for the consumer to know that memory
foam is a commodity product and Tempur- Pedic®
does not have an exclusive on this material.
Tempur-Pedic
®
has done a wonderful job of establishing memory foam
or visco elastic foam in the marketplace through
their national advertising campaigns. There are many
manufacturer's throughout North America now making
memory foam since the market has been established
and it is not patented.
All foam's are a chemical composition that are mixed
and poured into large vats. It then cures for a
certain amount of time before it is ready to be cut
into mattresses or pads. Depending on the chemical
composition, manufacturer's are able to make many
different density foam products. The good news is
that now consumers are able to sleep on these memory
foam mattresses at a tremendous cost saving compared
to Tempur-Pedic.
As with all commodity products, the consumer
ultimately benefits once supply and demand is
qualified. Factory direct manufactures similar
to Selectabed
®
obviously do not have the high cost of television
and print advertising so they are able to
dramatically under sell companies like Tempur-Pedic.
Tempur-Pedic uses 5.35 lbs. per cubic foot.
Our 5.1 lbs. per cubic foot memory foam is
practically , identical to Tempur-Pedic in
composition. We also use 4lb., 4.5 lb., and
5.1lb. density memory foam in combination, or by
itself for reduced firmness, especially in cold
temperatures. While memory foam is non-toxic,
our foam products use less chemicals than many of
the leading brands.
One issue with using a 5lb. density memory foam like
Tempur-Pedic uses on the mattress surface, is that
it will harden up with even a mild drop in room
temperature. Therefore, when you roll over at
night, it will be like rolling out of a hole onto a
hard slab like surface until your body eventually
warms up the memory foam again. We use a 4lb.
memory foam on the surface of the many of our memory
foam mattresses to allow more initial softness than
the Tempur-Pedic®
to cushion your body more adequately on the surface
and have a softer feel. The other advantage of
a 4lb. memory foam is that is will not be as
temperature sensitive, so it will respond to your
body more rapidly when you roll over at night.
In addition, we only use the highest grade U.S.
produced memory foam in our mattresses.
It is easy to understand all the confusion in this
marketplace regarding memory foam for consumers
since there are hundreds of resellers and
distributors making similar claims. Therefore it is
paramount for the consumer to qualify exactly what
they are buying by asking the correct questions.
Tempur-Pedic®
does not necessarily have a better memory foam
mattress then others but only a different density
level of visco foam that they are using along with
their marketing exposure.
How does the memory foam overlays made by
Tempur-Pedic ®
compare to the Selectabed®
memory foam toppers?
The initial
difference that most people notice is quite
favorable since they just saved hundreds of
dollars by purchasing factory direct. Unlike
Tempur-Pedic®,
we are able to customize your order since we
are located state side without having to
import memory foam overseas. Tempur-Pedic
offers 3" memory foam overlays whereas we
can cut any thickness of memory foam that is
requested.
Also, we are able to offer different density
levels of memory foam compared to Tempur-Pedic
to accommodate its customers since there is no
particular density of memory foam that is
correct for everyone. Specifically, we
offer the Bi-Pedic™
memory two layer density topper to allow a
choice of densities and a better initial feel of
softness with a more supportive base. You
can imagine the logistic challenge Tempur-Pedic®
has trying to import multiple density foam
overlays from overseas. The added convenience
and cost saving's are past along to the consumer
which is the ultimate goal as in any business.
However, Memory foam overlay's for mattresses
can often times be a temporary band aid to an
underlying problem. The mattress the consumer is
trying to make more comfortable has probably
outlived it's usefulness. The majority of
mattresses in our country are inner spring which
eventually become obsolete since the inner
springs will create pressure points and create
an uncomfortable situation.
Once again, Tempur-Pedic®
has done a wonderful job of creating a market
for memory foam overlays since they are in the
foam business and this is all they have to
offer. Our position is that the consumer should
always be looking to upgrade their present sleep
environment without having to patch or mask a
problematic surface with memory foam to make it
more comfortable. A truly supportive mattress
that has pressure relieving capabilities is
always more beneficial over the long term.
How does the Selectabed®
memory foam beds-mattresses compare to the
Tempur-Pedic
® memory foam
beds-mattresses?
Comparing our
memory foam beds-mattresses to Tempur-Pedic®
is quite simple once you understand the
physical differences. Tempur-Pedic glues
5.35 pds. per cubic foot to polyurethane
foam for a combined height of 8 inches. We
have the ability, as stated previously, to
customize each individual order. Having the
ability and flexibility to offer multiple
density memory foams offer a clear advantage
over Tempur-Pedic not to mention the
tremendous cost savings for virtually the
same product. Specifically the
Tri-Pedic™ Memory foam mattress offers a
unique design of three layers of different
foam densities to offer you the best support
with an amazingly plush feel.
We also offers different covers compared to
Tempur-Pedic®.
Our covers are not backed with a waterproof
material that will cut down on the breathability
of the mattress. Our mattress covers are
both hypoallergenic and extremely breathable.
They are also dust mite free and can be easily
removed and washed.
