Tempur-Pedic® vs. Selectabed® Memory Foam Mattresses

Not all memory foam mattresses are created equal! Hundreds of retailers and distributors make similar claims about their memory foam products, so it is paramount for consumers to understand exactly what they are buying by doing a bit of research and by asking the right questions. Here, we hope to help you with your decision-making by providing some useful information about how Selectabed's memory foam beds and toppers compare to Tempur-Pedic's.

We use the same high-quality memory foam that Tempur-Pedic uses, PLUS we offer more density options.

Tempur-Pedic does not necessarily have a better memory foam mattress, but simply a different density memory foam mattress. They use memory foam with a density of 5.35 lbs. per cubic foot. (Anything over 5 lbs. is considered a high-density memory foam which is very durable and temperature sensitive.) Our 5.1 lb. per cubic foot memory foam is virtually identical to Tempur-Pedic's. In addition, we utilize 4 lb. and 4.5 lb. density memory foams alone or in layering combinations with each other, because in many situations these lower-density foams provide a better sleeping experience. There is no particular density of memory foam that is correct for everyone.

The higher the density of the memory foam, the more temperature sensitive it is. This can be either good or bad, depending on the circumstances. For example, 5 lb. memory foam may be too firm in colder temperatures, and may harden with even a small drop in room temperature. Changing positions at night may feel like rolling out of a hole onto a hard slab. Eventually your body heat softens the memory foam again, but the response time may be enough to interrupt your sleep.

To solve this problem, we use a 4 lb. or 4.5 lb. memory foam on the surface of many of our mattresses to provide a softer initial feel than a Tempur-Pedic. This lower density memory foam is less temperature sensitive, and will respond more quickly to changes in pressure. It will respond to your body more rapidly when you roll over at night, which means you sleep more soundly and with less chance of interruption.

Tempur-Pedic does not provide these density options for their customers.

One of the main complaints about Tempur-Pedic mattresses is that they are too hot. The memory foam cradles around the body too much and does not allow heat to escape. Our patented Airflow Transfer System solves this problem by allowing the mattress to "breathe." Warmer air is transferred away from the body, and cooler air is drawn into the mattress all the way to the surface, as you move and breathe throughout the night. Tempur-Pedic claims to provide "air flow," but their mattresses lack the unique, patented features which make our Airflow Transfer System second-to-none.

We also offers different covers compared to Tempur-Pedic. Our covers are not backed with a waterproof material that will cut down on the breathability of the mattress. Our mattress covers are both hypoallergenic and extremely breathable, and do not interfere with the mattress's ability to conform to your body. They are also dust mite free and can be easily removed and washed.

You can purchase one from us if you like; but as long as your foundation meets our guidelines, you receive full warranty protection for the life of your mattress.
